With iconography as distinctive as their sound\, ZZ TOP is virtually synonymous with beards\, hotrod cars\, spinning guitars\, and that magic keychain\, all of which transcend geography and language. \n\n\n\nIt was in Houston in the waning days of 1969 that ZZ TOP coalesced from the core of two rival bands\, Billy Gibbons’ Moving Sidewalks and Frank Beard and Dusty Hill’s American Blues. Their third album\, 1973’s Tres Hombres catapulted them to national attention with the hit “La Grange\,” still one of the band’s signature pieces today. Eliminator\, their 1983 album was a paradigm shift for ZZ TOP. Their roots blues skew was intact but added to the mix were tech-age trappings that soon found a visual outlet with such tracks as “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs” on the nascent MTV. It was one of the music industry’s first albums to have been certified Diamond\, far beyond Gold and Platinum\, and a reflection of US domestic sales exceeding 10 million units. \n\n\n\nAs a touring entity\, they’ve been without peers over the past five decades\, having performed before millions of fans on four continents and have been the subject of their Grammy-nominated documentary titled That Little Ol’ Band from Texas. The band’s lineup of the bearded Gibbons and Hill and Beard\, who ironically is clean-shaven\, remained intact for more than 50 years until Dusty’s passing. When Dusty temporarily departed the tour in the summer of 2021\, it was decided that Elwood would be the perfect choice to stand in for Dusty until he could return. But Dusty’s return was not to be\, and Elwood continues to handle the bass duties for the band now and into the future. \n\n\n\nThe elements that keep ZZ TOP fresh\, enduring\, and above the transitory fray can be summed up in three words of the band’s internal mantra: “Tone\, Taste\, and Tenacity.” As genuine roots musicians\, they have few peers. Pasquerilla Conference Center in downtown Johnstown on Saturday\, September 21\, 2024.   \n\n\n\nSet It Off initially gained a large following via social media and You Tube following the band’s formation in 2008.  As of 2023\, the band is embracing their newfound independent status after releasing a combined 10 studio albums and EPs with multiple labels across their career.  Their most recent single\, “Fake Ass Friends” has peaked at #15 on the US Hard Rock Charts and #28 on the US Mainstream Rock Charts.  In 2022\, their single “Punching Bag” also appeared on the US Mainstream Rock Charts\, peaking at #26.  2014’s “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing\,” off their “Duality” album\, is also among the band’s best-known songs.  They currently draw over 3.25 million monthly listeners on Spotify. \n\n\n\nSet It Off has toured extensively worldwide as both a headliner and a supporting act.  The VANS Warped Tour veterans have supported acts such as Ice Nine Kills\, Falling in Reverse\, Black Veil Brides\, Simple Plan\, Sleeping with Sirens and ONE OK ROCK.  Musically\, Set It Off has cited bands such as Fall Out Boy\, Panic! At The Disco\, My Chemical Romance and New Found Glory as early influences before incorporating other elements into their later work. \n\n\n\nSupporting Set It Off on the Deathless Tour Part 2 will be From Ashes to New\, who bring a hybrid of hard rock\, hip-hop\, electronic and alternative to the tour.  Metalcore outfit If Not For Me will also perform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe all-ages show is standing room only/general admission\, with tickets going on sale Friday\, June 7 at 10 a.m.  Tickets are $35 (increases to $38 on the day of the show) and are available at Tickemaster.com\, and the 1ST SUMMIT ARENA box office.  A $1 fee will also be applied to all ticket sales\, plus additional service fees for online sales.  Venue policies at the Frank J. DESCRIPTION:Oh My Gob Day\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJohnstown hockey fans will have an opportunity to see some likely future NHL stars at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA this September\, as the Johnstown Tomahawks will host an exhibition against the United States National Team Development Program. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition game\, scheduled for Wednesday\, September 18th\, renews an exhibition series that has been dormant since 2019\, the last time the Tomahawks faced the USNTDP Under-17 team. \n\n\n\nThe USNTDP represents the highest level of USA Hockey’s amateur development program. Elite players from across the United States are chosen to join the national team\, which boasts current NHL superstars Auston Matthews\, Matthew Tkachuk\, and Patrick Kane among its alumni. Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils) and Trevor Zegras (Anaheim Ducks) are among the young stars to have competed against the Tomahawks in previous USNTDP exhibition games in Johnstown. \n\n\n\nAnother name holds perhaps even more interest for the local hockey community: Johnstown native Brody George. \n\n\n\nGeorge\, 16\, is the first area player to make the USNTDP U17 roster.  He played 61 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 15U team last season\, scoring 64 total points.  In 2022-23\, he netted 14 goals in 9 games for Conemaugh Valley High School. \n\n\n\n“We’re excited to get Johnstown back on our schedule this year\,” said NTDP head coach Nick Fohr. “It will be a great opportunity for our new group of U17s to continue their acclimation into junior hockey\, and it will be extra special for Brody to get to play in front of friends and family in his hometown.” \n\n\n\nLikewise\, for Johnstown Tomahawks coach Jared Kersner\, the exhibition will give his team a chance to sharpen their skills against elite competition. \n\n\n\n“This is a really exciting opportunity for us to play against the U17 team\,” said Tomahawks Head Coach and General Manager\, Jared Kersner. “The National Program continues to produce first-round NHL draft picks year after year\, so playing against the country’s rising stars will be a fun and thrilling experience.
